Specimen Required


Collect whole blood in a metal-free EDTA (royal blue top) tube. Spin down and separate plasma and red blood cells immediately. Ship 3 mL plasma and 3 mL RBC in metal free tubes; refrigerate.

 

NOTE: Both plasma and RBCs are required for testing.

Manganese is highly concentrated in the cellular elements of blood. Hemolysis of the cellular elements that is unobservable to the naked eye can result in elevated plasma manganese concentrations.
